Mistakes that cost money
Decimal feet is not feet-and-inches
5.5 feet means 5 ft 6 in, not 5 feet 5 inches. Half a foot is six inches, not five. This single confusion causes most cutting and ordering errors.
Divide rather than multiplying by 0.0833
The decimal factor is rounded, so it drifts: 66 × 0.0833 gives 5.4978, where 66 ÷ 12 lands on 5.5. Dividing is both simpler and exact.
Twelve to the foot, not ten
Decimal habits do not carry over. There is no such measurement as 5 feet 14 inches — that is 6 ft 2 in.
A screen size is not a width
Television and monitor sizes describe the diagonal. Compare your furniture against the panel width, never against the advertised number.

How many feet is 1 inch?
